Sustainable globalization must be closely aligned with emerging global trends and developments in the field of education. An analysis of the basis on which the internationalization of higher education produced is needed and the benefits of internationalization. This research is carried out in this context. THE PROBLEM While South Africa is in a process of transition regarding higher education to address the imbalances of the past, one wonders whether the education sector in South Africa is able to compete in the global economy, which view knowledge as a marketed product. Methodology A sample size of 781 respondents from six institutions of higher education in South Africa was selected.

Senior students were randomly selected using convenience sampling technique. A semi-structured questionnaire was developed to measure perceived competence profile of the institutions higher education in South Africa. The questionnaire provides five outbreaks of measurement, namely Section A: Institutional Information on the location where the defendant is registered. Section B: Biographical information on terms of gender, student type and country of origin. Section C: decision criteria used for selecting an institution of higher education. Section D: four dimensions of competition from higher education institutions, including strategic competitiveness, institutional competition, competitiveness of products, and competitive tactics. Section E: open questions in order to identify why respondents choose a particular institution of higher education, their views on the reputation of the jurisdiction of the institution, and the factors that can influence the international competitiveness of institution. The data is transformed into two categories opposite, ie that they agreed with statements and those who disagreed, allowing researchers to obtain an agreement with the hypothesis of distribution of disagreement.
